Description
The client had just built a brand new, ultra-stylish, modern house, and behind it was a relatively new swimming pool. The downside was that, adjacent to the swimming pool, there sat a pool/guest house that was now decades old, and a bit run-down. Of course, it had been cleverly hidden with some well-placed metal lattice screens, but it was clear that it still didn't belong with the new scenery. The goal was to bring a completely new, master-planned concept to the backyard, including renovating the swimming pool, organizing a new decking layout, tearing down the old pool house, designing a new covered pool cabana with an outdoor kitchen, outdoor living area, outdoor dining area, a guest room, and a full bathroom. And the most important part was that it all needed to blend together--they wanted it to look as though it had all been designed, planned and built together with the new home. Using the same brick from the construction of the house a wall was built that tied into the pool house, incorporating a glass firepit which connected the two to the home as if they were built at the same time. A focal point was created with a large raised wall of Lueder limestone complete with lighting, glass tile to tie into the pool house and custom made scuppers to create a dramatic water effect.
