Description
The primary design goals for this project were to create a family swimming pool that did not "feel like a traditional swimming pool, and to create a series watershape features that were stylistically consistent with the Modern Farmhouse architectural style of the home. This style weaves contemporary design elements into the fabric of a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The exterior design of this project serves as an extension of the unique home style into the exterior environment, incorporating elemental features of a modern or contemporary watershape design, with relaxed forms and softened natural materials prevalent throughout the developed spaces. This was achieved by eschewing a traditional pool shape form (rectilinear, free-form, roman, etc.) in favor of a series of watershapes that connect visual accent elements and functional circulation elements of the space into a irregular watershape that blurs the line between accent and function and creates a large swimming pool that is as much artistic view as a functional family swimming pool. The contemporary watershape elements, including glass tile veneers, fire features, and spillover waters edge details, were blended with the natural material palette and softened forms used in the home. The resulting exterior space serves as a seamless transition between interior and outdoor living spaces.
Key design features include a perimeter overflow "grass edge" pool edge which extends the lush lawn all the way to the waters edge, a full 360-degree elevated spillover spa with shimmering glass tile veneer, a series of "floating" steppers to provide access across the pool and extend the watershape features to the edge of the home, and an attention-demanding 360-degree spillover fire-on-water feature with glass tile veneer into a series of runnels spilling into the pool. In the end, functional family play spaces are blended with large group gathering and entertainment spaces; all highlighted by a series of accent focal points and features that cause a viewer to stop and "take in" the scope and details that blend together into a comfortable and relaxed outdoor space that extends the living spaces from the home to the new backyard.
