Though this project began as a request for a retaining wall and a fire pit, careful questioning of the client revealed her desire for a large swimming space and many different layers of activity. Her ragged and unmanageable landscape as well as her sloping yard led her to believe that her actual wish list could not be met. The final design and execution, however now provide her a large gently curving swimming pool, and two additional pool levels. A middle terrace with a gas fire pit and elevated sunshelf provide lounging and entertaining options, while an upper (house level) terrace shows off a carefully executed nautilus shaped spa. A similarly shaped planter was constructed as a virtual mirror image of the spa along the primary axis of the home. Several sets of elegantly laid travertine steps connect these terraces. Cascading water pours down two of these staircases and fills the space with incredible white noise. The water transfer between bodies was carefully engineered as part of a system that utilizes variable speed pumps, along side an in-floor cleaning system. Every mechanical component of the project from the pumps and heaters to the in-water LED lights and even the landscape lighting is tied into the internet connected control system. Along with the pool, hardscape, and landscape, we executed a full redesign, tear-off, and reconstruction of the homeowner's deck. Special features of the deck include a mechanical louvered roof system, and an aluminum "dry-below" system with integrated LED lighting. The homeowner specifically requested a pre-fabricated water slide, the entrance of which was incorporated into the deck's stair-system to provide functional, and safe access for her children.

Along with what we believe to be a unique and actively creative approach to what could have been a drab and boring landscaping project, we struggled to focus attention on details at every level of the project's design and execution. We are particularly proud of the level of craftsmanship with which the finishing materials were installed and the precise and accurate construction of the pool and hardscape structure.
