A corner lot with a small building envelope and limited impervious coverage available, we were faced with a true design challenge. The 8’ elevation change from the finished floor of the house to the garage/cabana led us to this creative use of space. By elevating the pool above the cabana grade we allow smoother transitions from space to space and the exposed pool wall provides additions seating for the cabana area patio. Transitioning up to the pool level a landscape wall allowed us to extend the living area in a rectangle lawn panel without exceeding lot coverage, the lawn panel extends the space, gives them a back yard and offers some visual relief from the stonework. The pool level patio has ample space for the outdoor kitchen, fire pit, siting area and dining. Setup against 2 setbacks this linear pool consists of an understated raised wall with a water feature, which creates a focal point and the sound of moving water. In an effort to create consistency, all pool walls were increased in thickness to accommodate an 18” wide coping in order to cap the exposed wall finished with veneer. In the end the clients love the easy transition from space to space and were thrilled with the additional space that the lawn panel gives them.
